Activities and sights to enjoy with clear vision
Summer is technically here, even if we’re experiencing a few more rain showers and a little less sunshine than we had last year. With international holidays likely off the cards this year, the holidays around the UK – commonly referred to as staycations – are growing in popularity. 2021 could be the perfect time to explore the UK and visit some new cities. We have Optimax clinics in 20 towns and cities nationwide, and we have compiled a list of our favourite spots near Optimax locations, which we think are ‘must-see’ places (ideally with glasses-free vision!).
London – The London Eye
We have three Optimax clinics in our beautiful capital city (Finchley Road, Harley Street and Liverpool Street). There’s no denying that London is a fabulous place to visit, whether it’s for a minibreak or just a day trip. With so much to do and see, why not kill several birds with one stone and head up to The London Eye. On a clear summer’s day, the panoramic views of the city are simply beautiful, made even better when you can enjoy them with sharp 20/20 vision!
Bristol – Banksy’s artwork
Bristol is a vibrant, colourful city full of hidden gems and sight-seeing to keep you busy for weeks (featured in the cover photo of this blog post). Home to an Optimax branch and our lovely clinic team, Bristol is perhaps most well-known as the home of Banksy and his artwork. Take yourself on a self-guided Banksy tour to see some of his most famous pieces, as well as some smaller works from earlier in his career. A fantastic way to explore more of the city and broaden your cultural horizons!
Brighton – Brighton Pier
The pier is an iconic landmark in the lovely seaside town of Brighton. Full of arcade games, fairground rides and souvenir shops, Brighton Pier is a fun-filled spot to spend an afternoon. Afterwards, if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy seaside strip, head towards the Hove area of Brighton. Here, you’ll find our Optimax clinic and friendly team and – from October 2021 – our newly refurbished lens treatment theatre!
Newton Abbot – Decoy Country Park
Just a mile from our Newton Abbot Optimax clinic lies Decoy Country Park. It’s a lovely open space with something for everyone, from playgrounds and skate parks to walking trails and a nature reserve area. There is also the lake with the canoe and windsurf centre nearby, giving you the perfect opportunity to try out some water sports this summer. We recommend waiting a month after having laser or lens surgery before going swimming or taking part in water sports, but while you’re in the Newton Abbot area, Decoy Country Park could be the ideal spot to do so!
Southampton – New Forest cycle paths
Southampton is a wonderfully placed city on the south coast of England, with a buzzing centre, that also happens to be next to the New Forest National Park. There is so much to explore, particularly in the sunshine during those long summer days. Head out on a bike trail for the day, and soak up some nature. A wonderful 32 mile cycle route starts and finishes at Eling Harbour in Southampton, looping around through the New Forest. We’ve heard cycling is even more enjoyable when you don’t have to worry about your glasses falling off en route…
Cardiff – Cardiff Castle
Our clinic in Cardiff city centre is practically within spitting distance of Cardiff Castle. The castle is one of the main attractions in the wonderful city of Cardiff, boasting over 2,000 years of history and providing a golden sight-seeing opportunity. You’re sure to get a view of it when you visit our Cardiff clinic – and what better sight is there to appreciate in 20/20 vision when walking out of an appointment with Optimax!
Birmingham – Bullring
Anybody who’s been to Birmingham has seen the Bullring. Even with blurry, pre-laser-eye-surgery vision, how could you possibly miss it?! Full of shops, restaurant and bars, you can easily fill an entire day mooching around there. Our Optimax Birmingham clinic is just over a mile from the Bullring and Grand Central, meaning that achieving good vision with us is so easily accessible in the midlands!
Milton Keynes – Snozone
MK is a modern town with a variety of attractions, including Europe’s largest indoor real snow complex, Snozone… and of course our Optimax Milton Keynes clinic. These two incredible attractions are less than a mile apart, which is very convenient for any glasses-wearing MK residents. Investing in laser or lens surgery could help you live life without glasses, and make wearing ski goggles or a ski helmet much easier! We’re all about practicality.
Glasgow – Glasgow Botanic Gardens
Glasgow is home to the city’s beautiful Botanic Gardens, filled with a herb garden, rose garden and a collection of tree ferns, to name but a few elements. Situated just over a mile from our Optimax Glasgow clinic, the gardens are open for visitors to enjoy year round. This should definitely make it onto your must-see list for this summer.
Liverpool – Royal Albert Dock
Royal Albert Dock is truly something. We love that our Optimax Liverpool clinic location is but half a mile from this cultural hotspot. Full of galleries, museums, restaurants, cafes, bars and shops, this is the perfect place for a day in Liverpool. Whether you’re interested in the Tate gallery, The Beatles Museum or visiting an escape room, there are endless activities to enjoy at the docks.
Manchester – John Rylands Library
This impressive Grade I listed building is just a couple of minutes’ walk from our Optimax Manchester clinic. Stunning on the inside and out, the library is home to huge collections of rare books and manuscripts, as well as housing the John Rylands Research Institute. It truly is an amazing sight, particularly if you appreciate neo-Gothic architecture and fine visual detail (seen even more clearly after vision correction surgery with Optimax!).
If none of these wonderful UK destinations tickle your fancy, why not try some other cities and towns? We have Optimax clinics in: Belfast, Leeds, Leicester, Maidstone, Milton Keynes, Peterborough and Reading. If you’d like to enjoy clear vision this summer, book in for a free consultation in any of our clinics to check if you’re suitable. Enjoy the sights of the UK this summer with clear vision and ditch your glasses for good!
